PacketSeeker appliances provide several performance and price points to meet your deployment requirements. 1500, 2500, 6500, 9500, and 10000 series range from 128kbps to 1 Gbps of full duplex throughput. PacketSeeker installs easily behind the WAN or Internet access router, transparent to your existing infrastructure. After supplying basic IP configuration information (IP Address, gateway, DNS server, etc), turn on Auto-discovery to immediately begin discovering, classifying and measuring traffic. Application-intelligence tracks the true nature of traffic. PacketSeeker's application-intelligent Layer 7 classification engine automatically identifies hundreds of applications by their unique signatures, pinpointing applications such as SAP, Citrix, Oracle, TN3270, and KaZaA. These include applications that negotiate dynamic port assignments and shifty peer-to-peer applications, which can masquerade as unsuspicious traffic and elude detection from other monitoring devices. Sub-classify critical network traffic types to create thousands of Layer-7 custom signatures. Classification parameters include: - Advanced Layer-7 application signatures
- Sub-classifications including Oracle (by database) HTTP (by URL, Web service, content type, MIME type), Citrix (by published application or priority), VoIP (by protocol or CODECs)
- Layer-2 MAC address
- Layer-3 IP addresses, address ranges, subnets, or host lists
- Layer-4 UDP and TCP ports, port ranges, and port lists
- QoS markings, including DiffServ, IP-ToS, IP-CoS, IP precedence
- MPLS label and label ranges
- Frame relay interface, PVC/DLCI, ATM PVC, or ATM interface
- ISL-VLAN, 802.1q-VLAN, 802.1p-LAN QoS Marking
Network Utilisation lets you analyse resource allocation and impacts. Leveraging application-intelligent classification, PacketSeeker presents usage "tops" to quickly identify traffic with the greatest impact on your performance - top users, top web pages, top applications. Analysis of more than 60 metrics per application include detailed information on peak and average traffic rates, bandwidth and resource allocation, network efficiency, packet distributions, dropped packets and more. PacketSeeker's analysis of network behaviour includes link-level intelligence that classifies by frame-relay or ATM PVC, IP subnet, MPLS paths, Ethernet MAC, and VLANs. Automatically collect additional detail when needed. Using the pre-defined or custom added Adaptive Response agents, PacketSeeker can automatically collect additional detailed information if monitored thresholds have been exceeded. The additional information collected can range from automatically generated and e-mailed reports to starting a Packet Capture. PacketSeeker integrates transparently into your network. PacketSeeker installs with simple IP configuration information, with no changes to your switching, routing or application infrastructure, and operates as a transparent in-line bridge, or optionally off of a mirror/span port or network tap. Hardware bypass and hot standby ensure PacketSeeker doesn't block traffic, while LAN Expansion Modules provide flexibility to fit in complex switched networks. On-board reporting, centralised reporting, and integration into management application infrastructure makes it easy to gather and distribute information. PacketSeeker has extensive onboard reporting accessible by Web interface for statistics stored as long as two months - reports, graphs, and statistics. With service-level agreements, you can define performance standards, compare actual performance with service-level goals, and generate reports on SLA compliance. ReportCenter provides the ability to leverage detailed statistics across large deployments. ReportCenter's centralised views track network performance and provide fast drilldown, scalable performance, and simple report distribution of network utilisation and application performance, for up to 1000 PacketSeekers. In addition, SNMP and XML APIs are used to integrate with systems from leading vendors like HP, InfoVista, Concord, and Aprisma. Upgrade to fix problems you discover. After PacketSeeker traffic monitoring helps you discover and find the causes of performance issues, you can address these problems by upgrading to a PacketShaper or PacketShaper Xpress with a software key upgrade.
